Community Service

Holiday Teddy Bear Drive

During the holidays, congregants purchase new bears in Unity’s bookstore and bring them to Sunday services to be blessed and loved for weeks. Then they are given to local children who are hospitalized or in protective custody and in need of comfort.

Backpack Drive

School bag with student supplies

The Unity community helps give local at-risk kids a bright start to the school year by having a backpack full of things they need to succeed. Unity participates with the Monument Crisis Center to distribute over 1,000 filled backpacks to children K-12. A list of backpack items is provided and monetary donations are accepted.

Coastal Clean-Up

The Unity of Walnut Creek Earthcare Alliance participates in the annual California Coastal Cleanup Event. This is an opportunity to spend time with friends or meet new friends as you pick up litter at the Radke Martinez Regional Shoreline. Some participants bring their lunch and stick around after the cleanup to enjoy eating with the group.

Additional community service projects occur throughout the year. Please check our calendar.

This is a tradition where Unity contributes to making low income families’ holidays brighter. Participants are invited to choose specific gifts to purchase for someone in at least one selected family. Cash donations are also accepted and used to buy grocery gift cards. The gifts are delivered through Brighter Beginnings, an East Bay family support organization.

Caroling at the Kensington

Every year Unity’s music team and congregants go caroling at The Kensington at Walnut Creek, a retirement community located just a block away from Unity. Participating in this annual event brings joy to others as well as the warmth of holiday singing together.
